St Mary's Church, Beaumont
St Mary's Church, Beaumont, Carlisle, Cumbria, CA5 6EF
St Mary's Church is the only church built on the line of Hadrian's Wall. It sits in a commanding position offering panoramic views of the Solway and surrounding countryside.
Built on the site of a Roman Milecastle and a Norman motte and bailey castle before the construction of the church in the 13th century.
Restorations in 1872 and 1888 left the interior of the church in its present state. The interior of the small church offers light, tranquillity and a peaceful place to absorb the history of this place.
There are 2 early medieval grave slabs on display in the church and 3 wall panels describing the history from prehistoric times to the present day.
