St Mary de Lode Church

The city's oldest parish church is mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1085. It was built over a Saxon church and a Roman building. The Roman mosaic tiled floor can still be seen in the church. The building was used as a prison for Royalist soldiers during the Civil War in 1643.
