On the corner of St George's Way & Church Street, Wolverton, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, MK12 5EX

  • 08 Sep 2024
  • In person
  • Pre-booking not required

Come and enjoy this Victorian Grade 2 * listed church, built in 1844. A very warm welcome to all our visitors.

Information on the history of the first Railway church via a self-guided tour will be available along with refreshments, cake stall, preserves, storytelling and kids activities including the chance to ring the bell! The churchyard is being managed to maximise biodiversity and is part of the Eco Church project.

The Church owes its existence to the London and Birmingham Railway Company, which opened the world’s first trunk railway in 1838, and its decision to site the important midway station and railway works in the parish of Wolverton. The church was built to provide a place of worship for the inhabitants of the new company town and was paid for by the railway company, with the help of the Radcliffe Trust.

The church has been part of countless lives, and every year it celebrates important events both in families and for the wider community. The congregation believe this church belongs to the whole community and we seek to welcome people to events related to the church calendar and civic events on behalf of others. It is a privilege every year to ensure that Remembrance Day is honoured, especially given the roll of honour in the church which includes the name of 14-year-old Albert French. There is also a Rood screen in memory of the fallen. A special highlight last year was the civic Christmas carol service. Our hopes for this day are for people to connect both inside the church and in the lovely churchyard.
