This Heritage Open Days event invites you to explore the splendour and significance of one of the most magnificent civic spaces in the world.

Built in the mid-19th century, the Great Hall stands as a testament to the vision and ambition of its creators. Designed by Harvey Lonsdale Elmes, it seamlessly blends Neoclassical and Romanesque Revival styles, showcasing an awe-inspiring interior that has witnessed countless historic events and grand celebrations.

Marvel at the intricate details and grand scale of the Great Hall. Experience the awe-inspiring barrel-vaulted ceiling adorned with beautiful plasterwork, every inch of this hall tells a story of artistic excellence and craftsmanship. The grand Willis organ, one of the largest in Europe, adds to the hall's majestic aura, its pipes stretching towards the heavens. This monumental instrument is currently undergoing meticulous restoration efforts to return the organ to its original splendour, ensuring it continues to enchant audiences for generations to come
