St Francis Church stands at the heart of the Bournville Village, designed in the early Christian basilica style and consecrated in 1925.

Bournville Parish Church, which is dedicated to St Francis of Assisi, is a place of calm and beauty beloved by local worshippers.

George Cadbury always intended there to be an Anglican church as part of his ‘garden village’. The land was set aside for a Church and Church Hall by Bournville Village Trust in 1905. The Hall was built in 1912 and the completed church was consecrated in 1925. The architect, William Alexander Harvey, designed the church in the early Christian basilica style.

This year on HOD there will be a large 'live steam' model railway, featuring the types of trains that worked on the Midland Railway that served the Cadbury factory, as well as a collection of railway memorabilia, including models of the locomotives that worked inside the factory grounds.

In addition, we will have a display, Chocolate and Steam, of over 200 pictures from The Bournville Society revealing details of the Cadbury’s railway, the locomotives which plied the factory tracks and demonstrating the importance of this local railway, its station and adjacent Worcester-Birmingham canal in the Cadbury story. You'll be able to see a display with a live steam model rail layout and static models, a collection of models of the locomotives that worked inside the factory. Plus, a vintage vehicle display just outside the church.

Musicians will be performing throughout the day and The Black Adder Morris Dancers will also be performing outside Church (weather permitting!).
