St Albans Clock Tower

Climb the 93 steps of the spiral stone staircase to the top of the only medieval town belfry in England and enjoy the magnificent views of the Cathedral, the historic city of St Albans and the beauty of the surrounding countryside.
Look in to the clock room to see the working Victorian turret clock, watch the rhythmic swinging of the pendulum and listen to the hypnotic ticking of the clock.
Stop off in the belfry and admire the medieval bell, Gabriel, which is still rung every hour on the hour. But don’t stand too close when it is chiming as it is really loud!
Enjoy the first-floor display, “The Roof Top Shutter Station at the Clock Tower.”
Enter the Dial Room on the third floor, which is only opened to the public on Heritage Open Days, between 10.30am and 1pm on Sunday, 15th September.
Play "Hunt the Golden Keys". Throughout the weekend, children will have the chance to win a bag of chocolate coins by playing “Hunt the Golden Keys”. Golden keys will be hidden throughout the Clock Tower for the children to find.

The stairs are very narrow and steep to climb. There is no wheel chair access.
