Silver spoons and much more...
St Peter Mancroft Church, Hay Hill, Norwich, Norfolk, NR2 1QQ
Over the course of 40 years Colin and Sue Ticktum built up a collection of about 400 silver spoons dating from the Middle Ages to the 19th century, including spoons made by craftsmen all over the British Isles. At its heart is an important group of pieces made in Norwich between 1500 and 1750, and study of these and silver held in collections such as the Castle and Cathedral enabled Colin to put forward the identification
of several Norwich's Tudor goldsmiths with known marks.
This research was included in the catalogue of the Exhibition of East Anglian Silver in 2004, and before his death in 2007 Colin set up the Ticktum Trust to care for the collection and make it available for viewing and study. The collection is housed in the City Centre, but Sue and her fellow Trustees have brought some of the items to St. Peter Mancroft for exhibition to highlight the spoons, and their role from being significant personal possessions to their place on the well-set table
