SHOP Preston x New Wave 2024

3 Syke Street, Preston, Lancashire, PR1 3XA

  • Multiple dates available
  • In person
  • Pre-booking not required

SHOP Preston to host open day at No. 3 Syke Street. No. 3 is a community space and studio, we will be displaying a mixture of work including: archival material, building history, workshops and art events delivered from our New Wave 24 collaboration!

We are opening up No. 3 Syke Street to the people of Preston to animate the story and history of our iconic little building. Well known amongst Prestonians as the former Charity Shop Rwanda, from which we take name.

This year our event is going to be better than ever before as we have collaborated with a wonderful group of 18-25's as part of New Wave 2024 to deliver a fantastic, self-guided, 'alternative' walking tour of Preston. Covering some horrible histories and amazing, but difficult to spot street art!

3 Syke Street has been transformed into a ground floor community space run by SHOP Preston CIC and an architecture studio at first floor inhabited by NWDC Studio and BAXENDALE. We will have a mixture of work on display, including snippets of our archive, history of the building and some family-friendly workshop-style art events. SHOP Preston's mission is to facilitate cultural and social programming within the city. We aim to benefit the community by providing a low cost, small-scale event space for individuals and groups to test or prototype cultural and social activities. It is conceived as a testing ground and incubator for new forms of sustainable amenity for the people of Preston. We believe that conceiving ideas, prototyping interventions and creating local capacity to enact sustainable change can be an organic, responsive process that brings communities together.

Accessibility details

The ground floor space has stepped access from the street and an uneven floor finish. The historic nature of the building means the space is not up to the expected accessibility standards. However, we will be on hand to help where possible to enhance the visiting experience. We have a number of chairs and seating spaces available on site and a loo via steep stone steps.
