Ships, Kings and Saints

Our heroes are Rædwald, King of the East Angles in the seventh century and Olaf, king of Norway in the eleventh. Both were originally pagan, but then they adopted Christianity. This did affect their subsequent actions, but not always in ways you might expect. After his death, Olaf was declared to be a saint and became the patron saint of Norway. Rædwald was largely forgotten although today you will probably be aware of the treasure found in his ship burial at Sutton Hoo, but he has also a crucial yet unsung role in the development of Christianity in this country.
Join Churchwarden Keith Walton to follow the stories of these two extraordinary men and reflect over what we can learn from their actions today.
