  • In person
  • Pre-booking required

**All tours are fully booked** Chance to see the newly revealed remains of Sheffield Castle, buried for around 400 years. Join Wessex Archaeology and Friends of Sheffield Castle to learn about its history and what recent excavations have unearthed.

These tours are part of the Castlegate Festival 2024 and are funded by Sheffield City Council and the Sheffield Business Improvement District.

Tours will take place on Saturday 7th, Sunday 8th, Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th September 2024.

This is a unique opportunity to see an archaeological site and learn about Sheffield’s history while exploring the excavations. The Castlegate area has changed dramatically over hundreds or years from castle to slaughterhouses, bowling green to steel works, and from Sheffield market to its current state. The site is now moving on to an exciting new chapter and work is underway to redevelop the area into a park.

Archaeologists will be on hand to showcase their latest findings and chat through their work.
