Sevington School, near Chippenham is a beautifully preserved Victorian village school used for educational visits to give children 'a day in the life of a Victorian child' experience. You can also enjoy this time capsule on Heritage weekend.

Sevington Victorian School is in the heart of the Wiltshire Countryside, four miles from J17 on the M4 close to Chippenham, Castle Combe and Malmesbury. It is a tiny village school, built in 1849 by Joseph Neeld for the children of workers on the Grittleton Estate. It has one school room attached to the school mistress's house and garden. It closed in 1913 when just three pupils remained and the school was then rented out as a private residence by the Neeld family. In 1987 the existing resident moved out and a group of educationists and volunteers, with the permission of the Neeld family, restored the house and garden to what it would of looked like in the 1890s and the school was made into a resource to teach children through historical re-enactment about life in a Victorian School. Over the years the school room contents had remained mostly untouched and most of the furniture and equipment in the school room today were actually used by Miss Squire and her pupils. The school is a registered charity and also welcomes visits from adult groups and holds Open Days on Sundays during the Summer. Visitors can experience and tour the authentic Victorian school room, school mistress's house, level access gardens and enjoy home made teas.
