Serbian Orthodox Church of the Holy Prince Lazar (part of Bournville Heritage Open Day 2024)
92 Griffins Brook Lane, Bournville, Birmingham, West Midlands, B30 1QG
Lazarica Church, Birmingham is one of many Serbian Orthodox churches dedicated to the medieval Serbian Prince, St Lazar. It is the first purpose-built Serbian church in the United Kingdom, built by exiled Serbs and their supporters in England with the exceptional help of the philanthropic Cadbury family, together with the late Sir Alfred Owen and his family.
It is evidence and a reminder of the strength and power of faith. Those who came to Great Britain after the Second World War, who lost all their earthly possessions, their friends, relatives, and even their homeland, brought with them their faith and the need to follow the example of Jesus Christ and St Lazar.
Presentations explaining the background of the Church and its founding members, along with a short film on Serbian culture will all be available on the day as well as a barbecue selling delicious burgers and homemade cakes and pastries, using traditional Serbian recipes.
PLEASE NOTE - parking on the church premises will only be offered to disabled visitors. We kindly ask all other visitors to park in the surrounding streets.
