Using multi-sensory approaches in combination with food history, the exhibition highlights the various routes people, goods and ingredients took to reach the local area. Sensing St Alfege will also show how such global networks influenced social and cultural life in the Church and in Greenwich. Most importantly, the exhibition centres the unique and personal stories of St Alfege that embodied these changes. Some key characters include: the chocolatier Mrs Grace Tosier, local victualler Francis Cofield, and civilians who sheltered at St Alfege during WWII and experienced food rationing.

- St Alfege Church is in the centre of Greenwich and is easily accessible by public transport. We suggest you use TFL Journey Planner to plan your visit. By rail: Greenwich mainline station - 10 minutes walk (either exit from the station). DLR: Cutty Sark for Maritime Greenwich - 5 minutes walk; Greenwich - 10 minutes walk. Buses: 129, 177, 180, 188, 199, 286, 386. River Services: Greenwich Pier - 10 minutes walk. Parking: there is no public parking available in the churchyard but on street parking using meters is nearby. There are two public car parks nearby: Burney Street SE10, 8EX and Cutty Sark Gardens, SE10 9HT.

'Sensing St Alfege. The Flavourful Histories of St. Alfege Church' is open from Saturday 7 to Sunday 15 September 2024, 11am - 4pm during church opening times. This event includes a small exhibition and two workshops, which are listed separately. Search for: 'Sensing St Alfege: Suffragette Crafting Session' on Saturday 7 September and 'Sensing St Alfege: Pens and Postcards' on Tuesday 10 September 2024. We will also deliver several free guided tours as part of Heritage Open Days: 'Hidden Spaces Tours' and 'Untold Stories: Women in St Alfege Tour', also listed separately.
