Scarisbrick Mausoleum
198 Rufford Road, Crossens, Southport, Merseyside, PR9 8JH
The Scarisbrick Mausoleum is probably the finest example of Neo Romanesque architecture in the north of England. It is the result of a combination of skilful design by Southport architect E.W. Johnson and exquisite stonework by the Tasker brothers of Burscough. Following years of neglect, the mausoleum became severely dilapidated with sections of the roof missing and the fabric of the building suffering as a consequence. Thanks to The Earl Fitzwilliam Charitable Trust and The Mausolea and Monuments Trust the first phase of a programme of restoration work was carried out to make the building watertight. Restoration works on the next phase are now in progress in order to bring this beautiful building back to its former glory and be a fitting tribute to the final resting place of several members of the Scarisbrick family.
