Join us on a special guided walking tour of Royal Halifax Infirmary to hear all about how it was established and stories of those who worked, contributed to or experienced hospital life here.

Opened by the Duke and Duchess of York (later to become King George V and Queen Mary) on 25th July 1896, the building was paid for by public donations with many names of benefactors such as Crossley, McCrea, Rawson, Appleyard, Simpson, Kitchenman, Porter and Baldwin. to still be seen on the buildings!

What we now know as the Charity Gala was originally the Infirmary Parade, which enabled the general public to donate in buckets as the parade left town. Monies raised went to assist in the running of the RHI.
