The Workhouse Museum, Allhallowgate, Ripon, North Yorkshire, HG4 1LE
Access to the gardens will be free for visitors on the the 6th, 10th and 13th of September. The gardens are open 10am-4pm. There will be a team of volunteers to welcome Heritage Open Day visitors and answer any of their questions. Visitors will be free to explore the gardens and the rare varieties of heritage plants we grow here. The gardens are kept the same as they would have been in Victorian times when it would have been used by the residents of the Workhouse. It promises to be an interesting visit to learn more about the role of gardening in the Workhouse system and Victorian Society's relationship with nature.

Our Garden are largely accessible with an even concrete path running the length of the Garden, offering a good view of all the planting beds. However, visitors who use a wheelchair should be advised that not all the paths are accessible as the ones that run between beds are on a steep incline with an uneven surface.
As well as providing opportunities for visitors to learn about the garden's interesting history, our Victorian Kitchen Garden is also a peaceful place to explore and relax. Around the side of the gardens are several benches for visitors to sit and take in the natural beauty of the site. We also have a bug hotel which children find endlessly fascinating, as they discover the creatures who have made their homes in our gardens.
