Researching Heptonstall's Past in 100 Objects
Old Grammar School, Church Yard Bottom, Heptonstall, Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, HX7 7PL
Researching Heptonstall is a community-led group for anyone with a passion for uncovering the past. Whether you're diving into your family history, the story of your house, or the secrets of a specific area - join us in helping unravel routes, networks and connections that have made Heptonstall such a fascinating hilltop town. It's bursting with stories of its former occupants from Sylvia Plath to Ethel Carnie Holdsworth, to the founders of buildings that survive today, including our own Museum, the former Heptonstall Grammar School and the wonderful ecclesiastical history including the Octagonal Methodist Church and St Thomas.
For Heritage Open Days we'll be helping explore our local history and along the way uncovering Heptonstall's hidden treasures. Some will ultimately contribute to a forthcoming exhibition of '100 Objects' scheduled for 2025 at Heptonstall Museum.
Join us for tips on your own research projects or to help us uncover hidden stories relating to the families and artefacts on our doorstep.
