Remarkable Journeys
St Chad's Church, Greengate St, Stafford, Staffordshire, ST16 2HP
From the time St Chad's was built nearly 900 years ago it has seen the start of many Journeys. It has travelled through its own story of creation, neglect and decay to its restoration in C19th which will be displayed as a Timeline in the North Aisle. In its early times it would have seen many visitors stop on Pilgrimages to Lichfield. Watch the video display and discover about these journeys and the C21st Journey that connects Lichfield and Chester, known as "The Two Saints Way". Images of the Saints of these 2 cathedrals, Chad and Werburgh, decorate 2 panels on the Reredos behind the High Altar.
Learn about the "Legend of the stones"........look at the evidence and decide if you agree with it.
The walls of the North and South aisles of the church display the story of Christ's final journey in "The Stations of the Cross": learn how they are used during lent to enable followers to make a spiritual journey contemplating the Passion of Christ.
Christian lives begin with Baptism. The extraordinary Font just inside the west door cannot tell the story of its own journey before it was put in this position in 1856, but the skills of the mason are very evident and certainly worth the beautiful wooden cover which was created in 1930s. Here also gives the best possible view of the Chancel arch and Rood beam.
Children can find our lovely knitted church mice and discover a fact about the church. Chose the correct colours to find out what's hidden in a picture.
