Reducing Bus Heights to fit under Oxford Railway Bridge
Old Station Yard, Main Road, Long Hanborough, Witney, Oxfordshire, OX29 8LA
: A volunteer will take participants to the museum’s engineering gallery, in which the exhibits show how the height of double-decker buses was reduced. There is a chassis from the First World War which originally had the body of a military lorry. Another chassis from the 1930s has a lower frame with a bus of the era nearby. Another way of reducing the height was to have a sunken gangway on the top deck and participants will be able to board such a bus. Another cut away exhibit shows the transmission being taken from the centre of the bus to the side. Finally the engine was relocated to the rear of the bus.
Participants will not have access to the Morris Motors Museum or the rest of the bus museum.

There are a couple of low thresholds in doorways but these are not a problem for wheelchairs and pushchairs.
