This is a chance to see inside a Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) and Waste Transfer Station (WTS). Residents of Gateshead, Sunderland, and South Tyneside, join us to learn about what happens to your general waste and recycling.

Come along to our site open day to:
- Learn how to reduce your household waste
- Understand how to reuse items in a fun and creative way
- Appreciate the importance of recycling
- Discover what happens to your general waste once it leaves your home

At Campground’s Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC), you will get to see the recycling site in action and take a tour of our Waste Transfer Station (WTS) where general waste is held before being transferred to the Energy from Waste (EfW) facility in Teesside.

After the tour, our Waste & Recycling Visitor Education Centre Coordinator will host a workshop where you will take part in activities designed to dispel recycling myths. You will learn about the process of recovering energy from general household waste and you will have time to reflect upon actions you could take in your daily life to positively impact the environment. There will be time to ask questions and explore the visitor centre and garden.

The tour is capped at 20 people, so booking is essential.
