Meet our artists, hear about our work in the community and find out how you can learn more about printmaking and papermaking and get involved in our exciting heritage project.
We will be holding a fundraising sale of prints to raise money for a young persons' bursary.

As a printmaking studio we're fascinated by the interwoven history of papermaking and printing. This project enables us to delve deeper into the history and legacy of Exeter's paper mills - which is something we knew very little about and are looking forward to uncovering a bit more with the support of Exeter University, Exeter Cathedral and our team of ten fantastic volunteer researchers.
Alfred Shorter's seminal research (Paper Mills and Paper Makers in England 1495 - 1800) was a starting point for the project. It indicates the rich industrial papermaking history of Exeter but also leaves so many questions! We hope that during the project we'll learn much more about the former paper mills along the river Exe - Countess Wear, Trews Weir, Head Weir, Exwick and Stoke Canon. Who worked there? What kinds of paper did they make and where did it go? How do these mills relate to global histories and what was their impact on Exeter?

- Our Printmaking Studios are based in Exeter Phoenix, on the lower ground floor and first floor. We are easy to find from central car parks, Exeter Central Train Station and Bus Stations. There is one disabled parking space in the Phoenix Car Park with more outside Exeter Library nearby.
