Portsmouth History Centre Open Day
The Norrish Central Library, Guildhall Square, Portsmouth, Hampshire, PO1 2DX
A range of items drawn from Portsmouth's archive collections will be on display on Friday 13th September from 10am to 4pm. These will include 19th Century playbills, profiles of Victorian police officers, official records drawn from the workhouse, plans for the 1920s slum clearances, Air Raid Patrol reports from the second world war. Plus, photographs from the past 150 years, a host of maps showing the development of Portsmouth, and a beautiful selection of historical postcards.
The guided tours, conducted by Dr Gareth Edwards and senior archivist Michael Gunton, will offer people the chance to peak behind the curtain of the Portsmouth History Centre, to see how we preserve records for future generations, and give a sense of the size and scope of the history contained within the archives.
