A talk on the history and development of the sport of horseracing and Pontefract Racecourse in particular, with a guided tour of the buildings, given by Norman Gundill MBE.

There is evidence of races being held at Pontefract as early as 1648, and in the confines of the present racecourse in the late 18th century. Enjoy a talk on the history of the racecourse followed by a guided tour of the stands and enclosures. The talk and tours will last approximately two hours and will include the Weighing Room and the Judges, Commentator and Photo Finish facilities.
Meet at the complex, nearby to the Huggamug cafe.

Accessibility details

There are steps throughout the tour as you move through the various buildings en route. Please arrive 10 minutes before the start time to allow for car parking, and a short walk into the complex and upstairs to the suite being used for the introductory talk. Meet at the complex, nearby to the Huggamug cafe. Look out for the HOD signs and bunting!
