Three animated films in response to three Derby 'gardens', including The Arboretum - Britain's first public park.

The PLANTING project commissioned three artists to make short animations in response to three 'gardens' in Derby - the Arboretum, Hannah Fields community garden, and Derbyshire Wildlife Trust's urban Green Corridor.

Artist Simon Hamlyn researched the heritage of Derby Arboretum - Britain's first public park: "In particular I have been fascinated by the industrial context that underpins the Arboretum, whose access was granted to the citizens of Derby in 1932 by Joseph Strutt. My hope is to create a film that moves between these contemporary and historical spaces – making a link between the two vastly different environments."

We're launching the films during Heritage Open Days - at Hannah Fields, and at Derby Arboretum, as part of Friends of Derby Arboretum's Community Garden Picnic.

Come and see the films and meet the artists:

Each film is about 3 minutes long.

Or you can watch the films online from 15 September.

PLANTING is produced by Animate Projects, a Derby based agency that champions experimental animation.
Supported using public funding by Arts Council England.
