Norfolk in the Middle Ages was a well connected city, both within England and on the continent, through its trading networks and through its established pilgrimage routes. In this period, two remarkable Norfolk women were visionaries and authors - Julian of Norwich and Margery Kempe. This talk will explore how Norwich's trading connections created a social and religious context which enabled these women to create the books which are their legacy.
