Nigel relives the path taken by a discontented faction of cotton mill workers who, despite having the Riot Act read out to them, pressed forward to destroy power loom machines at nearby Chatterton Mill which they saw as taking over their local livelihoods. The price for this violence was heavy as government soldiers fired on protesters causing loss of lives and severe wounding. Nigel lived in Chatterton during the 1990s and is in a particular position to understand the significance of the events that took place at that time.
