Odeon Cinema Harrogate - an Art Deco Gem
East Parade, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, HG1 5LB
“Wow! Just wow! My jaw dropped when I turned a corner in Harrogate and found this!” (Posted in Architecture, Art Deco, Cinemas at 12:00 on 18 September 2023).
Other cinemas in Harrogate have come and gone, but the 1936 Art Deco style Odeon has always been a head turner. The Odeon has been a constant cultural and entertainment presence for approaching 80 years. It is a much loved and much recognised local landmark and has been granted Grade II listed building status in recognition of its importance.
Harrogate Film Society (HFS) now in its 69th season, is run by a group of film volunteers and enthusiasts, bringing world cinema and less well known and less widely screened award winning films to audiences in Harrogate. For the last 4 years HFS and the Odeon have worked in partnership to screen HFS films, thus providing a full cinematic experience for its members and guests.
Kevin Langford will be available during the exhibition. Kevin has worked at the Odeon for 37 years and has a wealth of knowledge about this iconic cinema and will be happy to discuss any aspect of the building and its history with you.
On Monday evening at 1830 there is the opportunity to meet committee members of Harrogate Film Society who will also be on hand to discuss, chat and share their love of all things film related.
