Nunhead Cemetery

Nunhead Cemetery, a Grade II* Victorian burial ground, is one of London's 'Magnificent Seven' cemeteries and is of historic and ecological importance. Set on a hillside, the 52 acres of Nunhead Cemetery provides a green breathing space offering peace and tranquillity at the heart of London's Borough of Southwark. Stroll a few metres away from the Main Avenue along any of the curved paths into the woodland away from the bustle and sounds of the city. There, amongst the trees, you will find the story of the nineteenth century written in stone. Imposing tombs contrast with the tumbling headstones and carved angels peer through a covering of ivy. At the top of the site is a wonderful view of the dome of St. Paul's Cathedral. Nunhead may be a cemetery but it is one where nature gives it a life during each passing season.
