Norwich Over the Water - Walking Tour
Norwich City Hall, St Peters Street, Norwich, Norfolk, NR2 1NH
The ‘Leet Ultra Aquam’, as Norwich Over the Water was originally called, dates to the 12th century. It was subdivided into the wards of Coslany, Colegate and Fyebridge; names which survive to this day. A centre of Anglo Scandinavian activity surrounded by a defensive ditch, in 1004 it was sacked and burnt by the Danish King Sweyn Forkbeard. It later became a centre of industrial activity, and it also contains some of the earliest Nonconformist meeting places in the city. This walking tour takes us around the various sites and stories of this most singular part of Norwich.
