Nordic House - Danish Church
Danish Church, 104 Osborne Street, Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, HU1 2PN
On May 9, 1941, a devastating air raid completely flattened the building. However, with increasing trade and numbers of Danes coming to and living in Hull after the War, a new Church was built in 1954 with some items rescued from the old Church. One of these items being a seven branched candelabra which is now on the altar. More contemporary features include fine wooden panelling and ceiling lights which are also worthy of note.
Volunteers will be on hand to explain to visitors the history of links between Danish and British seamen.
At 1400, Dr Alex Ombler, curator at Goole Museum, and will give a talk on the Reuben Chappel and the pierhead painting tradition and trade links between UK and Denmark.
We are celebrating 70 years of the present church building and will display historic photos, maps etc about the bombing of the old church in 1941, to the building of the new one.
