Discover the ancestral home of the poet, Lord Byron, with free entry into the house. Originally, built as an Augustinian Priory in the 12th century, becoming the Byron country seat in 1540.

Take a walk around the home of the Byron family for nearly 300 years. View possessions and furniture belonging to Lord Byron; Poet, lover, freedom fighter and fashion icon, who was said to be 'Mad, Bad and Dangerous to know'. See how other families shaped the House and made it their home. Visit the medieval Cloisters, the domain of the Friars of Newstead, who lived here over 800 years ago. Our guides will be on hand to tell you the stories of Newstead, perhaps you may even encounter one of the resident ghosts, so keep your eyes peeled.
