Newhaven Museum
Avis Road, Newhaven, East Sussex, BN9 0PR
The museum collection includes an archive of over 20,000 images related to the history and people of Newhaven and the surrounding district. The images can be searched and viewed on our in-house computer. There is also an extensive collection of artefacts - many have links to Newhaven's maritime heritage, but other topics include Newhaven's involvement as a key supply and front line port during both World Wars, education, local industries and the treatment of the poor during the Victorian era. Visitors can view the displays at their leisure and our helpful volunteer stewards are available to answer questions or help you explore our archives and photo collection. For 2024's Heritage Open Days we will have a special exhibition highlighting famous (and perhaps some infamous) people who lived in or were connected to Newhaven in the past. We will also be hosting local artist Rachel Adams, who will be showcasing her multi-media take on Newhaven's transport heritage. Refreshments and toilets are available at the adjacent Paradise Park garden centre.
