NetWerks in Fisher Street was built as municipal offices in 1916, designed by local architect Rowland Halls. Recently restored and refurbished, the building retains panels of oxen above the façade and a barrel-vaulted ceiling to the committee room.

The Werks in Fisher Street was originally built as an addition to the neighbouring town hall complex for Lewes Borough Council. The municipal offices were designed by local architect Rowland Halls and built in 1914. Halls employed local craftspeople, stonemasons, metal-workers and stained glass window artists. One such artist, George Bankart created the panels of oxen towards the base of the bay window to the front elevation. Additionally, he constructed the barrel-vaulted ceiling to the committee room featuring signs of the zodiac.

Rowland Halls was born in 1879 in Horsham and attended the Lewes School of Science and Art in Albion Street.
Now restored and converted to an exciting workspace and cafe’. There is a small exhibition about the buildings history and architecture.
