Music, history and connections

St Pauls church, Edenfield Road, Norden, Rochdale, Greater Manchester, OL12 7SL

  • Multiple dates available
  • In person
  • Pre-booking not required

Join us for a walk though ancient woodland and fields, on trails used by millworkers and farmers for centuries, linking three historic churches in our area. Enjoy concerts by local musicians and sing your socks off to some favourite hymns too!

Everyone is welcome to join us for a walk starting at 10am on Saturday 14th September from St Paul's church in Norden.
We will walk down the Naden valley to St Michael's church in Bamford, calling in at St James' church on the way.
Then we follow the by-ways back to St Paul's.
The route is fairly flat, just over 5 miles, on footpaths, tracks and roads. Good footwear and appropriate clothing is needed.
When we get back to St Paul's, light refreshments will be available from our servery and we will be entertained by St Michael's school choir at 2pm.

There will be a nature-themed Songs of Praise service at 10am on Sunday 15th September

Rochdale Light Orchestra will be performing in St Paul's church on Sunday evening, 15th September.
Exact time and programme to be confirmed.

Come and admire our magnificent Heaven & Earth stained glass window, partly hidden for nearly a century, but now revealed in all its glory!

Directions:
St Paul's church is set back on a small hill at the western end of the main street, A680 Edenfield Road, in Norden village. Coming along the A680 from Rochdale, the church is on a hill to the right about 150m after the pelican crossing, just before you drop down to the bridge and bus terminus. Coming the other way along the A680, towards Rochdale, follow the main road down the hill and round the bends. Pass the bus terminus and a small park on your right, then St Paul's is on the left as you climb the hill, just before the shops. Car parking is available at the parish hall on Blackpits road, which is on the opposite side of the road to the church, near the bridge.

Accessibility details

There is a small step at the main door of church and a ramp for wheelchairs and pushchairs is available on request. Disabled access is via the main church driveway and paved path through the churchyard. The path is uneven in places - please contact us if you need help. The car park on Black Pits Road is about 200m from the church, across the A680. Please contact us in advance if you need to park nearer than this - we may be able to arrange parking on the church driveway. The toilet in church is level access, but is rather narrow for a wheelchair.

Additional information

The walk on the Saturday can be muddy and uneven in places, and 5 miles can feel a long way if you're not used to walking, but the route is not difficult. It is not suitable for wheelchairs as there are some steps and stiles. Children are welcome, as are well behaved dogs on leads. Visitors will be able to wander freely around our lovely church building and grounds. Free guidebooks (adult and childrens versions) to the church will also be available to help people learn a little more about St Paul's.
