Museum of the Broads
Poors Staithe, The Staithe, Stalham, Norwich, Norfolk, NR12 9DA
Discover how people have lived and worked in the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads. Our stories take you from Roman times, meeting peat diggers, marsh workers and early tourists, holiday makers, sailors and environmentalists of today. Many items on display are unique and include some of the area’s most iconic boats. There are films to watch, activities for all ages, and trails to do too. The new exhibition this year is all about peat - the importance of our peat landscape as a carbon store, to alleviate flooding and as a haven for wildlife. Discover how the Broads were made, the work of scientist, Dr Joyce Lambert, find out about new ways of farming, and watch our specially commissioned film too. Our wind power exhibition looks at the impact of sails on the development of the Broads - past, present and future, and we also have a special exhibition focusing on the life and work of artist, Philippa Miller. We recommend pre-booking for this event, although tickets will be available at the door. Our small shop sells souvenirs and light refreshments will be available. You can have a picnic by the river too. See our website to book and for further information.
