Middleton Heritage Red Trail Launch

Join us for this guided walk, which will take you around Middleton’s Golden Cluster of Architecture and History. Discover Middleton’s oldest church, as well as some of its architectural gems, designed by eminent Middleton architect Edgar Wood, among others. Find out more about the town’s links to the Jacobite rebellion and the Peterloo Massacre. Whether you a local or a visitor, you are sure to enjoy this walk, which will take you around the highlights of Middleton’s renowned Golden Cluster.
This walk is largely pavement based, with some steps and one hill from the Old Grammar School to St Leonard’s Church. Accessible toilets are available at Middleton Library and Middleton Arena.
Middleton Heritage Trail has been developed with funding from Historic England, Middleton Township, the Rochdale Development Agency and the Shared Prosperity Fund.
The trail has been produced by HPA Architects, along with local residents, historians and Rochdale Borough Council and Rochdale Development Agency officers.

The walk is largely pavement based, although there are some off road areas, steps and cobbled streets. There is one steep hill at the end which leads back to the starting point. There are accessible toilets on route. As it is a tour there are no facilities on site. Parking is first come first served, as it’s a public car park. There are toilets within the vicinity of the site. All outside so dogs are welcome.
