Visit Wednesbury Museum,see a portrait of Frederick Hackwood who was a notable local historian at the end of the Victorian period and join Andrian Johnson who will be sharing some of the research he has been undertaking about Hackwood's life

Meet the amazing, spectacular F. W. Hackwood of Wednesbury in a free to attend event with Adrian Johnson – writer of the summer theatre success Babsolutely Fabulous where he will share and discuss early work and research ahead of a new play he is writing about Hackwood.

The Amazing, Spectacular F. W. Hackwood of Wednesbury intends to recall some of the classic themes and works of Wednesbury’s foremost energetic and successful Victorian Black Country journalist, writer, historian and primary school teacher. 

With juicy selections from Hackwood’s incredible 30+ books (and hundreds of newspaper articles), Adrian explores Hackwood’s Black Country enthusiasms (folk lore, Black Country Customs, ale house songs, ‘chatty lessons.’ animal care for children, obsessions and curious tales.

When it is complete the play will be told through the eyes of his family and is scheduled for a pilot/first read through later in Oct/Nov 2024 with actors from the West Midlands.

There is blue badge parking next to the museum, we have a life to the first floor and accessible toilet on the first floor. Call the museum on 0121 556 0683 for further information. We aren't able to accommodate pushchairs onsite, they can be left at the pushchair station by the door
