Making a Grade 2 listed 1680s town house greener
12 St. Swithun Street, Winchester, Hampshire, SO23 9JP
The Council's Historic Environment Team Leader will be there 11.00 am Wed 11th, and the architect who specified the works and the traditional lime plasterer should be on site on the Friday - all will be pleased to answer questions. See: solar panels hidden on valley roof, and battery storage. Conservatory with triple glazing. Double secondary magnetic glazing to old windows. Underfloor insulation on ground floor - two types: recycled newspaper in one, multi-foil sheeting in the other. We have planning permission for an air source heat pump and will share all the details, but installation has been delayed till October. We have installed an electric hob, so soon we can stop using gas altogether.
In addition to extensive insulation and energy reduction works, we also repointed the rear flint wall (which was part of the city south wall).
The owners will start tours on the hour.
We hope this will be of interest to people who are wondering what they can do to their own homes, as well as people interested in old houses.
