Loxley Cemetery - Our Titanic Connection

Loxley Cemetery, Loxley Road, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, S6 6RW

  • 15 Sep 2024
  • In person
  • Pre-booking required

Visit a 200 year+ chapel and adjacent cemetery set in the beautiful Loxley Valley. Take tours of memorials/war graves and discover our connection to the Titanic disaster.

View from a distance a chapel of ease built in 1787 to serve St Nicholas Church at High Bradfield: a chapel subsequently sold to Protestant Dissenters and then to the methodist movement before closure in 1994 and gutting by fire in 2016. The chapel is Grade II* listed and on SCC 'At Risk' register. Visit a 200 year old graveyard complete with grand monuments, pauper graves, war graves, and victims of the Sheffield Flood of 1864. The graveyard is in 2 distinct sections, has approaching 10,000 interments and extends over 10 acres. We will be offering a free 'find a grave' service.
