  • 18 Sep 2025
  • In person
  • Pre-booking required

Discover some of the lost buildings and streets of Newcastle.

The talk is based upon a book written in 2014 and features many pictures of lost scenes of Newcastle which were taken from Newcastle Libraries extensive photograph collection. The talk will feature many lost streets, buildings, bridges, pubs, shops, gates, arcades and churches.

Pictures include the Newgate, Westgate, Royal Arcade, St Mary the Virgin Hospital, Eldon Square, Greenmarket, Medieval Bridge, Blackfriars, the Infirmary and even St James’ Park with floodlight pylons to name but a few.

It is amazing how many fascinating buildings and structures have been lost over time and some not that long ago such as the new Basil Spence Library in Newcastle, the rotunda café in Eldon Square and such pubs as Bourgognes, Burton House and the Farmer’s Rest.
