Longhoughton Parish Heritage Exhibition
St Peter and St Paul's Church, North End, Longhoughton, Alnwick, Northumberland, NE66 3AG
Following the 150th anniversary of its restoration this June, St Peter and St Paul's Church will host an exhibition looking at the history of the building, churchyard, and the people who have used it over the centuries. In 1874 its current appearance was created, thanks to public subscription, and we look into how this was done. We also uncovered some interesting stories about its vicars, from pious puritans and military heroes, to one whose life literally became a farce (performed on stage!). We have so far recorded 170 gravestones around the church and built up a database of old records to help our research. We are hoping to tie this to grave recordings, to make a record of how they appear now before more inscriptions are lost. Follow a new trail map to explore some notable graves around the churchyard.
Please note the Exhibition will be available from 1230 on Sunday 8th due to church services. The exhibition may be paused for other services as required by the community. Members of the group will be available to talk about the stories and local family history on Saturday 7th.
