Join us for a free Open Day to celebrate Marconi and the dawn of wireless communication at The Lizard Wireless Station. We're offering free tours, special radio demonstrations, family activities and refreshments.

We're offering free guided tours, special radio demonstrations and fun, family friendly games and activities.

On the edge of Housel Bay, not far from mainland Britain’s most southerly point, sits the Lizard Wireless Station. Go inside and it’s as if you have stepped back in time to 1901 and the dawn of long distance radio telegraphy. Here in the world’s oldest surviving ship-to-shore station you’ll discover the story of Marconi who, through pioneering experiments, put these huts at the centre of a technology that changed the world for ever.
We’ll be open for a special event from 11am-3pm on Sunday 8th September. When you visit you’ll be welcomed by friendly volunteers who, through short guided tours, special radio demonstrations and family friendly games and activities, will bring the station’s story to life. They’ll help you learn more about the fascinating developments in technology, about the lives the pioneers led and about how the station was used during the war.
There will also be light refreshments served on the day: teas, coffees and cake.

If you can’t make the special event for heritage open day, pop in another time: The Lizard Wireless Station is Open until 31st October 2024: Mondays - Thursdays 12 noon - 3pm (weather permitting). For more information visit: www.nationaltrust.org.uk/lizard

N.B. the radio demonstrations, refreshments and family friendly activities are not usually available.
