Liskeard Unlocked - Liskeard Links... Mining. An Arts & Crafts Open Studio
Cider Cottage, Woodhill Manor, Liskeard, Cornwall, PL14 6RD
The Liskeard Market Makers are a collective of local artists and makers who share the same passion for creating, painting and crafting. The display is themed on the links Liskeard has with its mining heritage and as such the exhibits we hope will reflect and celebrate this in an artistic way.
The location, Woodhill Manor, was built on the site of an ancestral home of the Marke family after being burnt down in the 1800s. The Marke family were joint owners of the land south of Caradon Hill on Bodmin Moor, land from where copper was extracted and as such became ‘Mineral Lords’ by claiming an agreed percentage of the value of the refined ore. John Marke of Woodhill was Mayor of Liskeard back in the 1500s and a member of his family became mayor on five further occasions in the years following this.
The location provides a peaceful, relaxed setting in which to quietly peruse the artistic creations including paintings, mosaics, jewellery, textiles, greetings cards and other crafts, many of which will be available to purchase.
Refreshments will be available on site free of charge.
The location is a walkable distance from Liskeard town centre (1 mile) although there is plenty of parking on site.
