Licorice Fields at Pontefract installation

John Betjeman was poet laureate of the UK from 1972, until his death in 1984 and his poetry evoked a sense of nostalgia.
The 'Licorice Fields at Pontefract' poem celebrates a romantic encounter that he apparently had when he visited Pontefract, experiencing our liquorice fields.
Fittingly the unveiling of the tribute will take place in Friarwood Valley Gardens, a place that has long been associated with the growing of liquorice.
