Leeds Central Library - Heritage Tour

Leeds City Council, Central Library, Calverley Street, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 3AB

  • Multiple dates available
  • In person
  • Pre-booking required

Take a guided tour of this Grade II* listed Victorian masterpiece in the historic heart of Leeds. From antique Potts clocks to grinning stone guard dogs, explore the secrets behind the scenes of one of the city's most amazing public buildings.

Opened in 1884, our Victorian building is a treasure trove of tiled walls and floors, beautifully stone-carved heraldic beasts, and entrances. Our tour takes in four floors of elaborate public spaces, including back rooms, corridors, and galleries not open to the public. Along with a history of the building and its occupants, we will tell you the stories of its everyday life, including celebrity book borrowers and one escaped snake.

Be warned, there are a lot of stairs.
