Lancaster Castle is one of the most iconic buildings in the north-west. Originally constructed in about 1093 by Roger de Poitou, it is today owned by HM The King in Right of His Duchy of Lancaster. Serving as both a court & prison, it has witnessed some of the most famous and infamous trials in English history, including those of the Lancashire witches.

Access across the site is via uneven floor surfaces. The tour route has changing floor levels, low doorways, stairs throughout and involves a considerable walking distance. The tour route is not suitable for pushchairs or buggies. If your infant is able to walk, or you are able to carry your infant for the duration of the tour, there is a place part-way round the route where buggies can be left, on request, at your own risk.
