In Defence of the Town

Newcastle’s town walls are a medieval defensive and Scheduled Ancient monument in Newcastle. They were built during the 13th and 14th Centuries and helped to protect the town from attack and occupation during times of conflict They were approximately 3 Kilometres long, 2 metres thick and up to 7.6 metres high. In total it had six main gates and 17 towers as well as several smaller turrets and postern gates This walk is going along part of the route mainly the eastern side to inform and explain about its structure and history.
