Ifield Watermill

Join us to experience the beauty, power and tranquillity of Ifield Watermill, the second largest waterwheel in Sussex. There are four floors for visitors to explore which tell the fascinating story of the watermill’s history, its use as an iron forge and later as a corn mill and to learn about the restoration work that has been vital to the building’s survival. Chat to our friendly and knowledgeable volunteers to learn more about the local area of Ifield, the working of the waterwheel and the agriculture machinery on display. Family activities are available on the top floor. Try your hand at grinding flour with our Quorn stone, meet our resident mummified squirrel, locate the trap doors and enjoy the beautiful scenic views across the Mill Pond from the bank at the back of the Mill.

Visit our on-site shop for your chance to buy souvenirs or literature on milling and local history. There are also pocket money items such as notebooks, pencils and badges for children to purchase.

Off Hyde Drive, Ifield, Crawley, West Sussex, RH11 0PL

Directions:

The Watermill is located off Hyde Drive, turn off Hyde Drive between the Guinevere Road and Rusper Road. There is a short dirt road, on the left there is a car park which visitors can use, the Watermill is then a short walk up the dirt road.

Accessibility details

The Watermill is four floors, the steps are open, but have hand rails. There are stair lifts to each floor, with one or two steps at the top of some of the flights.

Additional information

Entrance to the Mill is free but we welcome donations to help us continue running and opening the site. There is a small shop where you can buy souvenirs and drinks and snacks are available.
