Hyde Park Our Story
Cardigan Road, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS6 1LJ
Left Bank will curate a very special exhibition of art in all its forms, inspired by life then and now in Hyde Park including photographs and memorabilia shared by local people and groups. Home to historic buildings and iconic places, Hyde Park has evolved with the times, with stories of residential life, industry and academia, some-time clashes of culture alongside deep-rooted unity. A place where creativity, culture and community survives - Hyde Park has a unique story to tell. We will document the journey of Hyde Park from the Leeds Royal Park pleasure ground, quarries and fields in the Estate of the Earl of Cardigan, developments of dense red-bricked terraced housing in the late Victorian era to the in-coming South Asian and West Indian communities of the 1900's and the rising tensions and riots in the early 1990's. We will invite our guests, artists and local residents to explore the Hyde Park of the past, present and future. Expect music, dance and celebration!
