Minster Mews, Bridgegate, Howden, Howden, East Riding of Yorkshire, DN14 7JG
Have you realised that Howden was a transport and communication hub?
There will be an exhibition in Howden Minster from 10.30 am to 4.00 pm each day from Monday 9th September to Saturday 14th September with a special exhibition featuring its agricultural heritage on Saturday 14th September.
With its ferries across the rivers Ouse and Derwent, its up to 20 coaching inns serving stagecoaches and waggons traversing the North of England, its bridges providing road access, the two railway lines and stations, its airfields, one of which was the home of the R100, its many wharves on the river providing access for goods to and from local villages, Howden has, and continues to have, a pivotal role in communications for East Yorkshire and beyond.
Added to this is the role played by the Press Association in digital communications and Howden Minster with its spiritual role, Howden has much to commend itself as a historical and modern communication hub.
